Sigma-Honing

Sigma-Honing

Increasing component performance requires additonal quality improvements and the implementation of new quality parameters such as residual compressive stress. It further requires a continous adaption of manufacturing technology.
Components such as injection pumps, micro pneumatic systems or aircraft gas turbines show such highly-stressed bores.

The process variation called Sigma-Honing was developed by us to fulfill the requirements of defined compressive stress in the surface of the honed bore. Apart from the machine, the components of sigma-honing are in particular the parameter cutting material and tool. They are used to pass the liquid limit of the material through processing conditions and thus residual compressive stress occurs, which implicates an increase of endurance strength.
The advantages of sigma-honing include improved geometrical quality, as well as the improvement of mechanical material characteristics.
